We all know and love Bluetooth technology for it’s headset-connecting, file-transferring prowess - but it’s also something of a short range tech. Wander too far from your device and your connection goes kaput. EZURiO has just launched a new Bluetooth wireless module that can top 1 kilometer line-of-sight range! That’s an incredible gain from the current 30-100 foot range that most of us are used to. The new module is the size of a postage stamp and includes an omni-directional antenna. Total power consumption is claimed to be less than 700mW, at full power - again, an impressive feat. Nick Hunn, CTO of EZURiO, said, “It has long been a cause of frustration that so many commentators and engineers have assumed that Bluetooth is just a short range technology. Simply because some applications, such as headsets, deliberately restrain their range, Bluetooth is often considered to have limited application.” The limited view of Bluetooth is likely to change. However, most consumers aren’t in need of kilometer-range Bluetooth connectivity. EZURiO says that the incredible range of their new module translates into an incredibly stable and robust platform when used indoors - the environment where Bluetooth is most widely used. Bring on the long-range, super-stable Bluetooth modules! We’d love to sync our devices with our computer while sitting in our underground parking garage!
