  • T-Mobile 3G is live in Vegas, baby

Filed under: T-Mobile , UMTS That's right, kids, T-Mobile launched 3G data in Vegas this morning. The 1700MHz AWS 3G network went live for phones that can hit the UMTS 3G data stream, and if your phone is one of those, you may want to look for the pretty little icon and start doing some Intertron browsing. T-Mobile still expects to hit another 20 markets this year (along with some new handsets), so if you're not in Sin City, be patient -- 3G is coming. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • T-Mobile already lighting up 3G network in Las Vegas and Austin?

T-Mobile’s 3G network has been a long time coming. After winning the 1700Mhz AWS spectrum that it needed to launch its own special flavor of 3G networks in the US, T-Mobile was forced by the US government to stand-by as bureaucratic agencies proceeded to vacate the spectrum. And, after initially launching their 3G network in [...]
  • FCC unveils new T-Mobile 3G handset - Sony Ericsson TM506 Bella

With T-Mobile's 3G network up and running, we're eager to see T-Mobile bring some serious 1700Mhz 3G-compatible handsets into their stable. Some eagle-eyed detective work by Cellphonesignal has uncovered FCC documents that clue us in to a new T-Mobile 3G handset - the Sony Ericsson Bella. We're looking for T-Mobile to pick up the Sony Ericsson [...]
  • Samsung t819 hits T-Mobile with 1700Mhz 3G

Following on the FCC’s green-lighting of the Samsung t819 3G slider last month, Samsung and T-Mobile have made the Samsung t819 officially official for T-Mobile’s US subscriber-base. Now, we’re calling this Samsung t819 a “3G slider” because (1) it’s a slider and (2) it supports T-Mobile USA’s own special flavor of 3G spectrum (the 1700Mhz band, as we saw in the FCC-filing ). Interestingly, T-Mobile isn’t marketing this thing as a 3G handset, instead claiming that the quad-band GSM radio maxes out with EDGE data speeds. With a 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, microSD card slot, myFaves support, and a 220 x 176 display, theSamsung t819 is firmly planted in T-Mobile’s mid-range lineup. While the Samsung t819 is officially an EDGE-only jobby, we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that the handset will be rocking out on T-Mobile’s 3G network - once it goes live, that is. Grab your own Samsung t819 unnofficial 3G slider on T-Mobile website or at retail stores. “Coffee Brown” seems to be T-Mo’s color of choice for now. • T-Mobile goes live with 3G Nokia 6263 monoblock! T-Mobile 3G network to launch soon?

We’re not surprised to see this Nokia 6263 hit T-mobile’s network, but we are excited to see that it’s finally gone live on T-Mobile’s network. You see, the FCC already dropped some little morsels of information on this 3G, 1700Mhz WCDMA handset - we’ve been expecting it for some time now. And, with the launch of the Nokia 6263, we’re left thinking that T-Mobile’s getting set to flip the switch on their 1700mhz 3G network . The Nokia 6263 is basically a US-spec Nokia 6267, and as such, will be sporting nearly the same internals - 2.2 inch QVGA display, Bluetooth, microSD card slot, and media player. However, the camera loses a few (hundred thousand) pixels - downgraded to 1.3 megapixels from the Nokia 6267’s 2 megapixel camera. And, the Nokia 6263’s dual-band (850/1900Mhz) GSM radio makes sense for surfing the US airwaves - and is more than enough to work on T-Mobile’s 1900Mhz band. What really gets our juices flowing for this S40 device is the 3G support on the 1700Mhz band that T-Mobile is probably going to launch/announce/do something about tomorrow . If an S40 monoblock feature phone with support for T-Mobile’s 1700Mhz gets you excited, then a quick trip to your neighborhood T-Mobile dealer should be just what you need. • T-Mobile 3G network slated to go live on December 6?

Well what do we have here? Is T-Mobile is planning to take their anticipated 3G network online by December 6 2007? According to reports from The Inquirer , it seems T-Mobile may just be working on launching (or announcing their launch-plans) their long-awaited high-speed wireless network in just a few weeks time. There’s some conflicting information (we thought T-Mobile was set to launch their 3G network on the 1700Mhz frequency band ) and a good dose of wacky Brit-English in that INQ article, but the juicy bits are all we care about. A T-Mobile rep is apparently the source of this rumor - referencing an internal document indicating that T-Mobile would be announcing 3G network availability in the Washington State area “o n or before 6 December 2007.” If that’s the case, we can only assume that the government agencies occupying T-Mobile’s 3G spectrum has finally seen fit to pack up their things and turn over the frequencies to their new owner. Of course, we’re assuming T-Mobile had a lot to do with pushing helping said government agencies off of the 1700Mhz spectrum that is now under T-Mobile’s control - we just can’t believe that any bureaucracy was able to get their asses in gear and actually accomplish anything before its deadline (which is set for next decade, by the way). We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on, or around, December 6. It’s excitign to think that T-Mobile is finally taking the plunge into the world of 3G. • T-Mobile launches Samsung T639 3G handset. T-Mobile 3G network to go live soon?

We’ve been expecting this for quite some time now , and T-Mobile’s finally pulled the trigger on the Samsung T639 . The Samsung T639 passed through the FCC months ago, and reports indicated that the handset would launch in September. Well, T-Mobile has launched their first 3G handset ahead of its actual 3G network rollout. The Samsung T639’s quad-band GSM radio will be limited to strictly EDGE data speeds, as T-Mobile has yet to see government agencies vacate its 1700Mhz frequency spectrum. We’re sure T-Mobile is just itching to roll out its WCDMA network on the 1700Mhz band, but they’ll just have to wait for the molasses-bureaucracy to do its thing. The launch of the Samsung T639 could be a hint to T-Mobile’s intent to roll out its 1700Mhz WCDMA network in the near future - in limited markets at least. We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments. • What's taking T-Mobile's 3G rollout so long - slow, bumbling government, that's what

Leave it to governmental agencies and bureaucratic sludge to gunk-up the 3G-rollout process for T-Mobile. As you’ll recall , T-Mobile spent a good chunk of change ($4.2 billion) to acquire 120 spectrum licenses for the 1700Mhz frequency spectrum - with the intention of using the spectrum to launch their 3G network. So what’s taking them so long to actually launch the network ? Well, T-Mo’s gotta wait on law enforcement and homeland security to vacate the spectrum before the T-Mobile 3G network can get rolling. The auction stated that the government agencies have up to 6 years to relocate and move off the 1700Mhz band - which doesn’t bode well for T-Mobile’s 3G network-launch. The company even offered $50 million to help the bumbling government bureau-tards make the move, let’s hope it helps. There’s nothing like a bit of idiocracy to throw a wrench in T-Mobile’s plan to bring cheap 3G service to the masses. We’ve come to expect nothing less. • Could the HTC Kaiser be coming to T-Mobile USA's 1700Mhz 3G network?

Well, at first glance, we’d be inclined to say no. But, upon closer examination of the HTC P4550 Kaiser’s FCC documentation , we’d have to give the possibility a resounding maybe. You see, the FCC documentation includes a users manual for the “ Holy Grail ” of mobile phones - and makes mention of both T-Mobile and 1700Mhz frequency support. Given screenshots, the presence of myFaves support, and mention of T-Mobile’s USA-specific tmobile.com web-address, we’re thinking that our favorite wireless carrier might just be getting the HTC Kaiser sometime soon. Oh, and there’s even mention of some delicious 1700Mhz support - which, as you’ll recall , is T-Mobile’s 3G frequency. Coincidence? We’d love to see HTC’s Kaiser hit T-Mo’s newly launched 3G network.
