Samsung Launches Mobile Content Applications; Teams Up With Garmin To Provide Navigation

It's a trickle, but it's a start. Since announcing at Mobile World Congress in February that it too would follow in Nokia's footsteps by making the mobile web and content more of a focus, Samsung Electronics announced three content applications at CTIA. The world's second largest handset maker by market share, has launched an application that allows users to access 3D virtual world Second Life on their Samsung mobiles. The Korean company has also rolled out LifeDiary, an application that lets users compose a personal diary, which manages the user's photos and videos taken that day, the calls made, SMS messages sent, contacts and any specific appointments throughout the day. The application also allows users to create a personal blog that can be managed with their phone. The third application is called Softboard, which allows users to create their own content, including games, photo albums, greeting cards, and interactive messages on a PC, which can then be sent to mobile phones (release).

Samsung has also agreed to a deal with digital navigation firm Garmin that will make its phone-based navigation service a standard feature on select Samsung handsets. The service is called Samsung Mobile Navigator by Garmin and will be on Samsung phones--including its new i780 sold in Europe this summer (release).
