Qualcomm 3G chipsets in good shape - HTC set to launch 10 new Windows Mobile smartphones with Qualcomm 3G chips

Qualcomm 3G chips being used in new HTC Windows Mobile handsets smartphonesEven with the US ITC having banned Qualcomm’s 3G chipsets from US import, the US-based chip-maker doesn’t seem to be hurting for business. Our favorite Windows Mobile smartphone maker, HTC, has announced that they will be launching 10 new WinMo smartphones using Qualcomm’s new 3G technology.

HTC is the first smartphone maker to use Qualcomm’s new dual-core Mobile Station Modem (MSM) MSM7500 and MSM7200 3G chipsets. The tech is used in the HTC Mogul and HTC TyTN II Kaiser (both of which were recently launched) and should fall outside the scope fo the ITC trade ban on Qualcomm’s other 3G technologies.

There’s definitely more than one way to skin a mobile-tech cat. If you can’t get your 3G chips into the US, just develop some new technology that will make it to Yankee shores. Now that’s what we call innovation. We expect to see a lot more from the renewed partnership between HTC and Qualcomm - bring on the 3G (while we wait for 4G, that is)!
