Nokia's ( NYSE: NOK ) VP of multimedia, Mark Selby, has said he is "very worried" about Britain's "ludicrous" lack of commitment to mobile TV reports RapidTV news. He said that going with the L-Band option would increase the cost of building the network, and that "UHF in the shape of Channel 36 is available almost now, or will be wholly vacated in early 2009. We know it will take about three years to build out a network to deliver services to 93 percent of the population". The message being that regulator Ofcom should allocate the spectrum now so that the winners can get started building the network, rather than awarding it in 2009. He brings up the spectre of a 2012 Olympic games, where people in Paris, Vietnam and Nigeria would be able to watch it via mobile TV, but not people in Manchester. He reckons this will harm the UK's position in terms of content, creativity, applications and interactivity, although those who think mobile TV will flop probably aren't that concerned.
