  • Samsung hitches up its Mini Skirt phone

Here’s another Korean sweetie for you, Samsung’s strangely named ‘Mini Skirt’ handset — also known less prosaically as the SCH-C220. Available soon for around 500,000KRW (about £270/ $540), the Mini Skirt is a rather fetching little number, counting GPS (with traffic information), a touch-screen LCD, Bluetooth, and a two-megapixel camera among its talents. As is the [...]
  • Nokia finally announces the 8600 Luna but still no word on storage size!

Almost a week after Carphone Warehouse did the job for it, Nokia has finally got around to announcing the 8600 Luna. There’s nothing particularly fresh on the spec sheet, apart from a 2.5mm headphone socket (because those 2.5 to 3.5mm adapters are so handy!). Annoyingly, there is still no confirmation whether CW’s listing of 128MB or [...]
  • Office Communcations Server Interoperability with 80% of Global Market

At Interop Las Vegas 2007, Microsoft Corp and 9 leading IP-PBX vendors announced plans to provide interoperability between their respective communications solutions; this represents more than 80% of the global PBX installed base. These industry leaders are integrating their IP telephony offerings with the Microsoft’s Office Communications Server 2007 unified communications solution. This has been enabled via the release of an interoperability specification for Microsoft ® Office Communications Server 2007 which was announced in March at Spring VoiceCon. The broad interoperability offered by this approach will enable customers to rapidly integrate their existing telephony investments with Microsoft’s software-based unified communications solution. The benefits of such a deployment are the ability to seamlessly enjoy the existing telephony user experience in a way that is tightly integrated with the unified communications user experience, e.g.: Intuitive user experience Multi-modality (e.g. voice, video, text messaging, web collaboration) Ad-hoc multi-party, multi-modal conferencing Integration with business applications (e.g. Outlook) Rich Presence Mobility Enhanced security For customers who are unable to integrate their existing PBX infrastructure with Office Communications Server 2007, Microsoft also announced a partnership with 3 market leading IP-PSTN Media Gateway vendors who can enable interoperability between almost any PBX and the Microsoft unified communications solution. • Two Board Members Resign At Amp’d Mobile; CEO Still Hanging In

The drama at Amp’d Mobile continues: according to our sources, two of the investor board members have resigned, though of course with about a total of 18 board members, doesn’t make a huge dent in the board population. CEO Peter Adderton is still, well, the CEO, though our sources indicate he hasn’t been running things day to day and hasn’t been in office in close to a month now. Day to day operations of the company is now being run by the head of the board, and no specific decision on Adderton has been made, nor has he resigned. Related Adderton Says He’s Still CEO But Amp’d Leadership Status Remains Unclear

  • Friday Night in Tokyo

Just got back to the hotel after an amazing night out in Tokyo. I spent most of the day working out of the Microsoft office, and was given a taste of pure Japanese work ethic. Allow me to elaborate. Many of the staff at the Microsoft Japan office: Get to work at 8am Leave work at 11pm Boot up the laptop upon getting home Only see their children (awake, at least) on weekends Reluctantly take their 3 days of vacation a year when given no other option The proof is in the pictures, check out this snapshot of the Microsoft Japan office at 7:00pm on a Friday night. Remarkable! When I think of how much progress the Japanese culture has made in various industries (such as automotive for example), I now see that they arrived their only through hard work and determination. They seem to be the hardest working people I’ve ever seen… After finally being able to get Yoichiro-san out of the office, we went over to a Japanese restaurant for all sorts of local delights. The ordering process alone took several minutes, conducted completely in Japanese so know it’s going to be good! And as you’d expect, I ran into a spot of trouble when I tried to pick up the bill. Hmmm, I guess it’s as good a time as any to start learning Japanese. And for those that are wondering… yes, Yoichiro-san went back to the office after dinner (around 10:30pm). I wonder what time our counterparts back in the States will be leaving the office today?

  • Zune Insider --- There is a Firmware Update 1.4 Today

Zune Insider reported that as of 10:00 am PT, they will have released a Firmware Update 1.4. This update (it's firmware only; software is still 1.3) brings an improved shuffle experience. For those slightly more technical readers, the direct word from the dev team: "this firmware update makes successive shuffle actions produce more random lists." If you've been following this blog, then you probably know that the team at Zune is continually working to improve Zune - and this update is another step in that direction. Source: Zune Insider
  • The EVERUN UMPC - 12 hours of time

SlashGear picked this item up from Aving and I must admit, it is another nice looking device and this one is said to run for 12 hours. That is very cool! The new EVERUN sports a 4.8-inch 800×480 screen that automatically switches between portrait and landscape modes when rotates. It is powered by an AMD Geode processor and has built-in 802.11b/g wireless, Bluetooth 2.0 and an optional HSDPA/Wibro modem. Battery life? It’ll last you all day, 12 hours with the large battery, 7 hours with the smaller one. It is priced at around $700 ... very interesting Source: SlashGear
