Setting up a new ASUS R2H UMPC

After spending the last 48 hours setting up an ASUS R2H UMPC, I am finally able to surf the web and write blog posts. The Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system was installed when the system was first turned on. The system was not connected to the Internet during the installation, however, there were 47 updates to be installed before being able to use the mobile pc on the web. In addition, .Net 2.0 and several dlls were installed. Plus, Live writer was installed. I did not remove any software but decided the screen rotation was not worthwhile because the spacing was not right. I will stick with 800x480 so that I can read the screen. I will also stick with the TIP and stylus rather than Dial keys and touch. The ink experience is very smooth.

I made a dramatic mistake at the beginning of using the UMPC by leaving the ASUS site as the default. After launching the IE 7.0 browser, the site would take 15 minutes to load and allow the TIP to put in a new domain. I almost gave up and was cursing the UMPC for the slow performance. The key to success involved removing the ASUS website as the home page. Simply changing the default allowed a fast and normal browsing experience. I do not know why this default site caused a problem but this was a major problem solved. Party time !
