Intel is pushing for cellular connectivity in laptops so that laptops can be more useful than ever. That does not mean that they are giving up on WiMAX. In fact, it's quite the opposite. This will help drive the adoption of WiMAX. All cellular modem vendors have a play here, but Intel and Nokia have announced a partnership in this space.
Nokia, who had dropped out of the M2M business is now in the cellular modem business for latops. Option, Novatel Wireless, Sierra Wireless, and Sony Ericsson have more competition now, and this has affected Novatel and Sierra's stock prices temporarily.
